Soul & Self-Care Sunday Reflection: A Heavenly Birthday for My Mom 
Today my heart pauses in reverence and celebration. It’s my mother’s birthday — Shirley Williams McPherson, a woman of grace, strength, and faith who transitioned to her Heavenly home on September 16, 2022. Though she no longer walks this earth, her love, wisdom, and prayers still echo in my spirit every single day.
Not everyone has a mother they wish to celebrate, and I honor that truth. But today, I rejoice in the gift I was given — a mother whose presence was a blessing, whose example was a compass, and whose faith was unshakable. To have a mom like Shirley was to experience a glimpse of God’s nurturing heart in human form.
As I reflect on her life, I am reminded that true joy doesn’t come from possessions, positions, or applause. It comes from knowing Jesus Christ as the center of our lives and the anchor of our souls. My mom knew this well. Her faith was not just words but a daily rhythm, a steady beat that grounded our family. She lived what she believed, and because of that, she leaves a legacy that inspires me to this very day.
So on this Soul & Self-Care Sunday, I pause to say: Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mom. Thank you for teaching me that self-care isn’t just about nurturing my body or my mind — it’s about tending to my soul, keeping Jesus at the center, and allowing His love to overflow into every part of my life.
If you’re reading this and your heart aches from loss, know that God is near the brokenhearted. If you have someone to celebrate, do it fully. And if your journey has been marked by pain, lean into the One who heals. Because at the end of the day, He is our joy, He is our comfort, and He is our forever peace.
